Network Admin / Engineer (Part Time)

Purpose:

This position’s primary responsibility is to act as a network admin / engineer. This position requires a customer service-oriented individual with a technical aptitude that is looking to grow or continue their IT career.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide network support, troubleshoot common network issues, and assist with network maintenance tasks
  • Design, implement, and maintain highly available, scalable, and secure network infrastructures on-premises
  • Integrate advanced security controls and Zero Trust principles into new and existing network architectures, ensuring compliance with organizational and industry standards during IT transitions and upgrades.
  • Deploy, configure, and proactively monitor network hardware, software, and services to ensure optimal performance, availability, and adherence to organizational policies
  • Continuously track network performance using modern monitoring and analytics tools; recommend and implement improvements to enhance capacity, scalability, and resilience. Stay informed of industry trends and emerging technologies to advise on infrastructure evolution
  • Answering incoming calls, emails, and web-submissions in a customer friendly and efficient manner
  • Resolve end-user incidents and requests efficiently
  • Explain technical issues and terms in a way our clients can understand
  • Work with Service Desk Technicians as needed
  • Providing high-end, customer focused service that our clients expect
  • Position may have on-call responsibilities and an occasional weekend / holiday work requirement on a rotational basis.
  • Follow / document processes and procedures.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by management

Minimum Skills, Education, and Experience:

  • Two years of experience working directly with an enterprise network
  • Industry-related networking classes and / or certifications (CCNA, CompTIA Network+)
  • In-depth knowledge of network administration
  • Knowledge of regulatory standards (e.g., PCI, HIPAA, NIST) and best practices for network security hardening, configuration management, and ongoing compliance.
  • Hands-on experience with switching (Capacity Planning, STP, LACP, and VLANs), Routing (OSPF, EIGRP, BGP), WAN Technologies (MPLS, VPLS, VPN, and SD-WAN) and Security (Firewalls, IPS/IDS, Zero Trust Frameworks, or other next-gen security tools).
  • Consistently exceeded customer expectations by providing exemplary service.
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs to waist height on a regular basis.
  • Ability to follow directions and meet deadlines.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new tools and techniques.

Location:

We’re located in Hoffman Estates, IL, but this position would essentially be for remote, on-call, and on-site visits (as needed) for locations we manage in the Berkeley / Elmhurst / Maywood area of Illinois.
