This morning one of us received a text-message from an unknown number claiming that there was a Sun Pass toll in Florida that the recipient didn’t pay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That person doesn’t live in Florida, but they do have a Sun Pass account.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With that said, here’s the message they received:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Sunpass: Our records indicate that you have an unpaid toll trip. Please make an online payment at\u00a0https:\/\/ invoice sun pass tolls (dot) com\u00a0to avoid excessive late fees.”<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

*NOTE: Spaces were added and certain parts were removed from the URL above in order to avoid giving the website any clout.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The person went ahead and checked their record on the actual Sun Pass website (using a Google search to bring them to the correct website (URL)) which was https:\/\/www.sunpass.com\/<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ironically, their account actually had a positive balance – so this text-message was clearly a scam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We went ahead and further inspected the URL by clicking on it (which we advise against – most people knowingly exposing themselves to possible malware infections or further scams) and it turns out the scam website actually asks for the visitor’s Social Security Number.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Where To Report Scam Websites<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Seeing how dangerous this scam website was, we went ahead and reported it to Google at:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

TLDR: If you come across a website that appears to be a scam (like the one above), please report it to Google. This will ultimately put it on the radar and save others a few headaches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
