{"id":2715,"date":"2023-06-13T09:10:07","date_gmt":"2023-06-13T14:10:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/media-moon.com\/blog\/?p=2715"},"modified":"2024-07-10T00:25:43","modified_gmt":"2024-07-10T05:25:43","slug":"how-to-use-biometrics-for-your-cloud-infrastructure-part-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/media-moon.com\/blog\/how-to-use-biometrics-for-your-cloud-infrastructure-part-3\/","title":{"rendered":"How to Use Biometrics for Your Cloud Infrastructure \u2013 Part 3"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\"><em><strong>Introduction<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the last blog, we introduced what the \u201cInfrastructure as a Service\u201d, or \u201cIaaS\u201d is.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This can be deemed to the be the first layer of a Cloud Infrastructure.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In this piece, we examine the second layer of the Cloud, which is known as the \u201cPlatform as a Service\u201d, or \u201cPaaS\u201d is.\u00a0 We also review how Biometrics can be used to secure this layer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em><strong>The PaaS<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The second deployment model for the Cloud Computing Infrastructure is known as \u201cPlatform as a Service\u201d, or \u201cPaaS\u201d for short.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; It can be specifically defined as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cA complete development and deployment environment in the cloud, with resources that enable you to deliver everything from simple cloud-based apps to sophisticated, cloud-enabled enterprise applications . . . PaaS includes infrastructure\u2014servers, storage, and networking\u2014but also middleware, development tools, business intelligence (BI) services, database management systems, and more.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">(SOURCE:\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/overview\/what-is-paas\/\">https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/overview\/what-is-paas\/<\/a>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a><em>How Can Biometrics Be Used to Protect the PaaS?<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As can be seen from the definition, the PaaS consists of both the hardware (primarily the servers) and software aspects.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So, in other words, it is essentially yet another server but unlike the IaaS platform, it also consists of many types of software as well.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In order to protect the server aspect of the PaaS, the same methodology that was used to protect the IaaS can also be used again in this instance.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But in most cases, the PaaS servers will be stored in yet another separate area of the Data Center (away from the IaaS servers).\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In these instances, Biometrics can also be used to protect the PaaS servers.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For example, once the employee has gained access through the 1<sup>st<\/sup> point of entry (via the Hand Geometry Scanner), he or she can then gain access to the 2<sup>nd<\/sup> point of entry (this is the area where the PaaS servers are stored) by having their identity confirmed by a Fingerprint Scanner, which is illustrated below:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"609\" height=\"406\" src=\"https:\/\/media-moon.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/18.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2716\" srcset=\"https:\/\/media-moon.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/18.jpg 609w, https:\/\/media-moon.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/18-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/media-moon.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/18-150x100.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 609px) 100vw, 609px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em><strong>Conclusions<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By using a Hand Geometry Scanner and a Fingerprint Recognition Device in tandem like this, it also serves a Two Factor Authentication (2FA) solution.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Our next blog will examine the third critical piece of the Cloud, which is the \u201cSoftware as a Service\u201d, or \u201cSaaS\u201d.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This the one part which is the most widely used component of any Cloud based infrastructure.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In this post, we delve into the concept of &#8220;Platform as a Service&#8221;
